Paralegal/Law Clerk

Required Qualifications:
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a US government security clearance.
- Law degree, or currently attending an ABA-accredited law school, having completed at least one year of study.
- Requires sound working knowledge of federal and state court systems, legal research procedures, and legal research resources. Requires excellent written and oral communication skills and thorough knowledge of legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw.
- Must have hands-on familiarity with a variety of computer applications, including word processing, databases (such as document review and file management systems), spreadsheets, and imaging. Role also requires hands-on familiarity with Client tools and knowledge of eDiscovery procedures and resources.
Responsibilities:
- Review legal and court documents to include procedural and factual histories; conduct legal research and investigation; produce competent written and oral legal work product.
- Electronically request and collect reports from the clemency partners, including the Bureau of Prisons.
- Conduct legal research on various Department and government litigation positions for use in clemency product.
- Engage in correspondence with clemency petitioners, advocates, and the general public.
- Draft correspondence to clemency partners, including U.S. Attorney’s offices and the appropriate unit of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, seeking case review or investigation.
- Provide support to attorneys conducting clemency review, including copy-editing, summarizing case-related materials, performing general investigatory functions, and conducting legal research.
- Compile and organize relevant documents for use by attorneys in preparation for correspondence with various clemency partners, including U.S. Attorney’s offices, and the attorneys’ evaluation of petitions.
- Create visual exhibits used as support for the recommendations prepared for senior Department leadership and the White House.
- Subcontractor will be responsible for delivering specified and custom reports specific to section 5.0 Requirements.
- Subcontractor will be required to provide weekly report summarizing hours worked, accomplishments, and a description of work performed.
- Subcontractor will be required to provide monthly & quarterly financial reports, reporting spend amounts.
